Integrity anyone?

Sunday, October 30, 2011
Gosh, its that time again already. Has it really been almost 3 years since the last election? Im growing weary of it and there is still a long way to go. Am I the only one who seems taken aback by how low (this early in the game), some of the politicians are stooping? It makes me a tad nervous thinking about what is in store for us during the next year. They are practically all hopping around on one foot because the other one is in their mouth. Why, they have set a new standard and its not something to be proud of, I can tell you that. We accept it though and that seems to give them permission to push it even further. They have very low expectations and fail to reach them! Forget having integrity. And dont even be surprised if that word is declared politically incorrect! Its a head scratcher.

I was somewhat horrified by the ovation during one of the first the GOP debates when it was announced how many people were executed here in Texas. I say "P I T I F U L". That is nothing to be proud of and certainly nothing to cheer about for crying out loud? But what I think is worse than such a big number is the fact there were so many heinous crimes we felt demanded that extreme punishment. But when did we start blaming the punishment instead of the crime itself? Are we afraid we might hurt someone's feelings? Why have people become so irrational? Where has common sense gone? You either have to be all the way to the left or all the way to the right. Sheesh! There is no middle ground anymore. I dont know about you but Im taking sanity back yall!

Now, dont get me wrong, I am not exactly opposed to the death penalty, but Im not convinced it does any good as a deterrent either. I think murderers need to be harshly and swiftly dealt with. Forget this lingering on "Death Row" for 20 years eating up more and more of my tax dollars just to protect some murderer's civil rights or some such nonsense! I happen to think a fine and fitting punishment for those murderers and repeat offenders would be to use them for medical experimentation! Now THAT might just nip a lot of this murder and mayhem in the bud and maybe make them feel like they are contributing to the society they purpetrated against. I think a mean ol criminal might think twice before murdering someone if he were to face the threat of being injected with the MRSA flesh eating bacteria or the HIV virus rather than languishing with free room and board on "death row" for 20+ years! Its not a conversation I get into with friends or family for obvious reasons.

Once while I was on jury duty I was asked a question during voir dire about punishment for repeat offenders and I told the lawyer my idea. Several folks laughed but I certainly didn't mean it as a joke. The judge asked if I made that statement hoping to get released from jury duty. I told him "no, not at all" but that they ought to consider my idea because their current plan obviously wasn't working too well. The judge looked at me slack-jawed and said nothing.I could tell he was thinking it over though. Thank goodness we are still a free country and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I say thats fine, just dont try to change mine!

Its probably why I prefer 4 legged company.
