I am so weary of apologizing for something that did and did not happened 150 years ago. Good grief, we lost and it seems we are STILL apologizing! I say enough is enough, get over it, put on your big boy panties and shut up already!
One hundred and fifty years ago a horrific event took place in our country. A lot of people today remain sadly misinformed yet have very strong opinions and emotions about this event based on this misinformation! Some of these opinions have the power stir up rage in otherwise civilized and genteel people, me included. I think I have been fairly ladylike in my expressed opinions up to this point and hopefully that will continue. Don't get me wrong now; when my tail feathers get ruffled I let everyone within ear shot know about it!
It seems that we are not encouraged to seek the truth and think, much less speak independently for fear of hurting some one's feelings. This is especially true where the War of Northern Aggression is concerned. I say phooey to that. No one is going to tell me how to think or believe and I, in turn, will show them the same consideration. That is part of our freedom as Americans! I do not hold myself out as a historical scholar, just a regular person who loves her heritage and would fight to the bitter end against anyone who tries to paint it over as something it wasn't. Furthermore, if I choose to fly the First National Flag of the Confederate States of America, I will do so proudly and (it appears) bravely! This flag is part of my heritage and NOT a racist statement! I repeat; NOT A RACIST STATEMENT!
April is Confederate History Month, y'all. It seems there are a lot of folks who think that is a bad thing and shouldn't be celebrated at all; just forgotten about, glossed over and turned into a minor blip on history's big picture radar. I'm not sure why the Museum of the Confederacy in Richmond, Virginia felt the need to elect a Man of the Year for 1861, but they did. There are no words to describe my shock at hearing that Abraham Lincoln was chosen, unless it was for the Most Notorious Man of the Year in 1861. Abraham Lincoln choked the life out of the South, as was his intended goal. I am sick and tired of people thinking he was some humanitarian and national hero.
The Civil War was not ALL about slavery, y'all. It was about......MONEY. Surprised? Well, that and religion are the basis of most wars, so you shouldn't be. If you think it was all about slavery then you might read a little. The truth is much more disturbing. Its time to become informed of that truth and not just accept the propaganda PBS and other media entities would have you believe. Just because someone has a platform and media outlet doesn't make them seekers of truth.
I expect Yankees to feel the same loyalty towards their heritage but we have to remember that we are all responsible for making sure the information we pass along is the truth! Then and only then should we feel entitled to our own loyalties and opinions.
So,I say if you have a Confederate flag, fly it high and proudly, after all, it is Confederate History Month,"History" being the key word here folks! No one can take your history away from you!
You can say what you want about the South but strangely, you never hear of anyone retiring and moving North!
Deo Vindice and have a Dixie day yall!
